<span data-metadata=""><span data-buffer="">A trip down memory lane
Currently, the Jazzzolder is located in the beautifully restored Preacher's Church, where we would love to invite you to an evening of fun, happiness and jazz music. Restoration work on this atmospheric venue was completed in September 2024, allowing us to take up residence here.
Before that, our concerts took place in room “Mandela” of the Preachers, which also houses the city library. This space offered beautiful acoustics and became our home since September 2019, after we had to move again.
Our previous location was the Our Lady's Choir, which housed us after the owner of our then building sold the property. This marked the end of eleven beautiful years in the chapel on the Wollemarkt in Mechelen.
This chapel, which we were allowed to use thanks to vzw Counter (video arts), became our second home after leaving our original attic. On Friday, November 10, 2006, we gathered there for the very last time, with pain in our hearts we said goodbye to the place where it all began. Two weeks later the first concert in the chapel took place, and both visitors and musicians were enthusiastic about the new stage and the unique atmosphere.
What began as an intimate gathering soon grew into a vibrant jazz scene. Young musicians showed interest in performing and the audience grew. This success led to the founding of vzw Jazzzolder in 1998.
However, our roots are in an ancient building in Mechelen, where the janitors of the parish center of O.-L.-Vrouw o/d Dijle in the Refugie of Grimbergen moved in in 1997. In the grandiose attic they had available there, they decided to create a cozy private meeting place for friends, complete with a “jazz DJ” playing jazz records.
